A Conversation with Irvin Yalom Featuring A Panel Of Psychotherapists, October 15, 2010 – 3 CEU

We cordially invite you to join in a conversation with Irvin D. Yalom, MD, the psychotherapist, writer, and teacher who is widely regarded by the mental health community as one of its leading thinkers and practitioners. Dr. Yalom, Professor Emeritus in Psychiatry at Stanford University, is the author of the groundbreaking text Existential Psychotherapy and co-author of the definitive book on group work, The Theory and Practice of Group Psychotherapy. In addition, he has published both fiction and non-fiction related to psychotherapy, including Love's Executioner, When Nietzsche Wept, Lying on the Couch, Momma and the Meaning of Life, and The Schopenhauer Cure. His two most recent books, both published in 2009 and received with high praise, are Staring at the Sun: Overcoming the Terror of Death and The Gift of Therapy: An Open Letter to a New Generation of Therapists and Their Patients. Dr. Yalom will join us live via satellite from his office in northern California for a wide-ranging discussion of individual and group psychotherapy in the context of key themes that lie at the heart of his work – the dynamic psychic tension between life and mortality, meaning and meaninglessness, relationship and isolation, freedom and responsibility, authenticity and persona.

Joining Dr. Yalom will be a panel of highly respected local professionals led by Robert Mark, Ph.D., a psychotherapist and co-founder of our organization. He will be joined by Jeffrey Roth, MD, an addictions psychiatrist and group psychotherapist; Mary Jo Barrett, LCSW, executive director and co-founder of The Center for Contextual Change, Ltd.; and Darryl Pure, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist well known for his individual and group work with injured war veterans, people with eating disorders, and fathers.

The Program Includes a Networking Hour and Continental Breakfast 3 CEU will be awarded to guests licensed in Illinois as LCSW, LCPC, and LMFT. Please feel free to share this invitation with your colleagues.
